Cora started her channel in 2007, doing it for fun as everyone was at that time. She was inspired by the makeup videos and wanted to start making her own. It was until 2010 that she realized she was making more money from YouTube than she was at her job at the Mac store. Now she’s a YouTube celebrity who’s been reinventing herself and staying ahead of the game while making a full-time living from her channel.

She’s super passionate about sustainability and preserving the environment. She’s really played her part in being the voice of using cosmetics that aren’t harmful to yourself or the environment. What really inspired me about Cora is that she’s very in tune to what’s truly a fit for her. She isn’t just doing her channel about the money and she isn’t satisfied with the current state of the beauty industry on YouTube. In this episode, she shares her experience remaining relevant and toeing the fine line between keeping in integrity with herself while also making a living on YouTube.

In her 20 years in corporate, she never felt satisfied. She was inspired by Marie Forleo and saw the impact she was making and she was drawn to sharing her story with video as well. Now she helps people get leads, clients and huge connections on LinkedIn and in her 9 months making videos, she has reached 2 million views!

There are 1.9 billion YouTube users, some are uploading 400 hours of videos every hour of the day and some are watching 1 billion hours of videos every single day. There’s a 100% chance that a great number of those creators don’t fit universal standards of beauty. We’ll get to universal beauty in a second, but you have to ask yourself, why aren’t you one of those people putting out video? Is it really beauty or it that just an excusing covering up something else?

We dive into all of this today and I hope you get to the root of the issue, if it is an excuse and work through it. Everyone is beautiful in their own way, it doesn’t matter what anyone says, or said in the past. Beauty is subjective, what someone finds not beautiful, others will worship the ground you walk on. In all those variables, you need to control how you feel about yourself. because if you don’t think you’re beautiful and worthy of making your voice and face heard, it’s better to hang up your ambition and don’t even start making videos for YouTube. Tough love but true. I know you’re not giving up so let’s dive into how to shift the negatives in this episode!

Dr. Mona Vand started in a place where a lot of us start out. She was very hesitant to jump into YouTube because she felt it was too saturated. But after building her brand on Instagram and Snapchat, and wanting to give even more value and go into even more details on what she was teaching - going into detail is what she loves more than anything - she decided to try it out. For her first set of videos, she did everything wrong and barely grew at all. But in December 2017 she scrapped everything and started over. She dropped the persona she was trying to be, an embraced her flaws and all, and that’s when she started to grow. One of her new videos hit 5k views and she was off to the races after that and hasn’t stopped growing since!

What’s unique about her experience was that she started already comfortable with being on camera, after having done many lives and stories on IG and Snapchat. One hack she used was to not reinvent the wheel. She was already doing well with her lives, so why not record her YouTube videos as she does her lives? If you watch any of her videos, you can tell how well that works! She is a lot more calm and herself than her older videos, and she’s gaining resonance with her audience because of it.
