Get ready for the journey and I hope you enjoy the ride.

“If you’re committed to being an influencer, then you should be in for the long haul.”

Gwen was working in digital marketing and entertainment for 10 years before she ever thought about building her brand. She started it out as a hobby on Twitter in 2014, but that quickly into a passion she couldn’t ignore. Twitter, turned into her blog, an that turned into an Instagram profile, and 6 months later she was already monetizing her brand. In 2 short years, she was able to quit her job and become an influencer full-time!

“There comes a point where you need to decide if this is going to be something you’ll take seriously as a business or not.”

She believes that if being an influencer is something you feel called to do, and you’re doing it to add value to peoples lives, you’ll stick with it for as long as it takes to become successful. She has zero time for the get rich quick clique. Gwen teaches YouTubers how to monetize their content outside of the built-in ad platform and she’s definitely holding nothing back in today’s episode.

“Stick to your audience and your content because you want to be the one that a brand goes to when targeting your people.”

If you’ve ever struggled with self-confidence and doubt, then you NEED to listen to this episode! Today’s guest is fellow podcaster and entrepreneur, beauty and lifestyle YouTuber and Blogger and Author. The Skinny Confidential’s Lauryn Evarts Bosstick has built her empire by following her heart and her passions and she shares a ton of tips to help you do the same!

“Don’t even think about connecting with brands because it becomes a distraction to servicing your audience.”

The Skinny Confidential was started by Lauryn when she was a freshman in college in 2010. At the time, she looked at the internet and saw whitespace where a haven and resource tailored to women could exist, and she jumped in and made it herself. She didn’t make a dime for the first 3 years, but fast forward to now: she has a hugely successful blog, a podcast with her husband, affiliate and brand deals and multiple businesses to help women.

“With action comes clarity. You never truly know until you do something.”

Lauryn is working to create something much bigger than herself and she wants the brands she’s created like The Skinny Confidential to represent that. She’s brought her husband, her sister and several employees and freelancers slowly into the business to help it grow even further. You’re going to learn a lot about her mindset towards overwhelm and the unique way she views her audience that makes her so successful.

“Instead of looking at how I can get more followers, I always concentrate on the followers I have.”

The Fyre festival was one of the biggest scams in human history - thousands of people showed up for a party but got chaos instead. But it’s also a perfect example of the power of well-executed influencer marketing! On this solo round, I talk Fyre festival details and what you can learn to do and to avoid as an influencer!

“There's a level of responsibility that everyone has to have because when influencers are involved, people take action.”

Imagine it: a magical escape, beautiful scenery, models and the promise of affluence and exclusivity… Who wouldn’t sign up for that dream? Especially when all the influencers you know, love and trust are all talking about it? The “Bigger than Coachella” Fyre Festival fell flat and it really cast a spotlight on influencer marketing. The huge question of the day is, are brands going to be more careful with their budgets - keeping most of it out of the hands of influencers from now on, or will they see it as a successful proof of what could be and dive in head first?

“The time frame was way too short, their budget was way too low.”

If you haven’t seen the Netflix or Hulu documentaries yet, try to watch them with a skeptical eye. Neither of them has unbiased accounts of the event. The Netflix doc was made by the same people who promoted the festival - and there’s a lot of controversy surrounding their hand in the scam. The makers of Hulu doc, though they interviewed the kingpin himself Billy Mcfarland, paid him for his side of the story. So, there’s dirt on both sides, but both are still worth the watch. What do you think: do Ja Rule, Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, and the other models and influencers share in some of the blame, or were they all duped just like everyone else?

“Influencer marketing works. Influencers are the new celebrities.”

This episode is all about hyper-growth! We’re pulling back the curtain on how to grow from having no channel to 300,000 subscribers in 2 years! If you’re ready to learn how to simplify your workflow and get the nitty-gritty details on how she grew her channel, then Fashion Youtuber Naomi Boyer is here to deliver in today’s episode!

“What makes people really successful is the stuff that's different.”

Naomi had always wanted to do something in fashion, but after leaving college she started working in pharmaceutical sales and she hated it. After some time in, she decided that she couldn’t stand it anymore and started researching becoming a full-time YouTuber. She looked up everything from growth strategies to what YouTubers were doing to monetize their channels. When she was ready, and with the support of her husband, she quit cold turkey and started her channel. A ton of consistency, listening to her audience and 2 years later, she broke 300k subscribers!

“The people that resonate with your opinion are going to stick with you, and those that don’t... that’s okay.”

Naomi and I spoke about the new atmosphere on YouTube and the challenges of sharing your opinion in a space where negativity and hate run rampant in the comment section. We also spoke about what videos were huge inflection points for her channel, and how she's able to keep making content and selecting topics that people want to see.

“YouTube life can look glamorous, but just wanting to be in it is not enough to get successful.”
